ASUS Guest WiFi on AiMesh

How to Setup ASUS Guest WiFi on AiMesh

In this article I’ll show you how to setup an ASUS Guest WiFi on AiMesh. If you’ve invested in an ASUS AiMesh setup around your home, you already know how handy it is for blanketing your house in solid Wi-Fi coverage. But if you’ve recently added a new mesh node—like an RP-AX58—and started letting guests connect, you might have run into a frustrating quirk: devices on your guest network refuse to connect properly through your secondary nodes.

Instead of roaming smoothly, your visitors might drop connection as soon as they walk away from your main router.

In this quick guide (and accompanying video), I’ll show you the exact setting you need to toggle to make sure your guest network runs across all of your AiMesh nodes, plus why the mobile app won’t let you do it.

The Problem: Guest Wi-Fi Isolation on Nodes

When you add a mesh node to expand your home network, you expect everything—including your separate VLANs or guest networks—to mirror across the entire system. However, by default, ASUS routers sometimes handle guest networks locally or restrict them unless explicitly told otherwise.

If you notice that devices near your secondary nodes can’t hop onto the guest Wi-Fi, there’s a simple setting hiding in your router’s web interface that fixes it instantly.

Step-by-Step: How to Enable Guest Network Across All AiMesh Nodes

To get your guest network broadcasting from every node in your house, you’ll need to bypass the phone app and log into the web dashboard. Here is how you do it:

  1. Log into your ASUS Router Web Interface via a browser using your local router IP or router.asus.com.
  2. Navigate to Guest Network from the main menu.
  3. Choose whether you are configuring a 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz guest network.
  4. Enable your guest network if it isn’t already turned on, and click on the guest network entry to enter edit mode.
  5. Scroll down to look for the setting labeled “Guest Network on AiMesh”.
  6. By default, this might be set to your main router only. Change the option from “Router only” to “All nodes”.
  7. Hit Apply or Save to lock in your settings.

A Quick Warning About the ASUS Router App

If you’re wondering why you can’t find this toggle on your phone, you aren’t going crazy.

If you open up the ASUS Router mobile app (Android or iOS), head into Settings > Wi-Fi, and look under options like sharing with friends, you simply won’t find the mesh node toggle. ASUS has kept this specific configuration option out of the mobile app interface, meaning it has to be done directly via the router’s web dashboard.

Final Thoughts

Once you flip that switch to broadcast across all nodes, your guests will be able to roam freely around the house without losing connection or bogging down your main private network.

ASUS Guest WiFi on AiMesh (FAQ)

Why doesn’t my ASUS Guest Wi-Fi work on my AiMesh nodes by default?

By default, ASUS router firmware often confines Guest Wi-Fi networks to the main primary router to maintain network isolation and security. Unless you explicitly change the Guest WiFi Network on AiMesh setting to “All nodes,” secondary nodes will not broadcast the guest SSID.

Can I turn on Guest Wi-Fi across all nodes using the ASUS Router mobile app?

No. The ASUS Router mobile app currently lacks the toggle to enable Guest Wi-Fi across AiMesh nodes. To change this setting, you must log into your router’s web interface via a web browser (router.asus.com or your router’s local IP address).

Will ASUS Guest Wi-Fi on AiMesh across all nodes compromise my main network security?

No. Enabling the ASUS Guest Wi-Fi on AiMesh across all nodes allows your mesh devices (like an RP-AX58) to broadcast the guest SSID, but it still maintains the network isolation rules. Guest devices connected to secondary nodes will remain separated from your main local devices, smart home gear, and shared folders.

Does this setting apply to both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz guest networks?

Yes. You can configure the Guest Network on AiMesh setting independently for both your 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz guest network bands within the web interface.

Which ASUS routers and nodes support this feature?

Most modern ASUS routers and mesh extenders supporting AiMesh 2.0 (including models like the RP-AX58 or RT-AX series) support broadcasting guest networks across nodes. Just ensure your main router and nodes are updated to the latest official ASUS firmware.
